CARE FOR THE PLACES WHERE MIND & BODY OVERLAP

Sleep problems, physical symptoms, trauma, and emotional well-being don’t always stay in separate categories. Neither does our work. Red Deer offers specialized psychological care for adults, teens, and families whose concerns may involve more than one piece of the picture.

Insomnia & Sleep Therapy

Restore Sleep

WHEN THE STANDARD SLEEP ADVICE HASN’T BEEN ENOUGH

Maybe it started with a few rough nights. Now you’re tracking your sleep, watching the clock, trying medications or following every rule you’ve been given, and still waking up exhausted. The harder you work at sleep, the harder it can become to actually sleep.

Restore Sleep looks at what is keeping the problem going. For some people, CBT-I is exactly what’s needed. When sleep problems overlap with chronic health concerns, trauma, neurodivergence, or a body that has trouble settling, treatment can adapt accordingly.

This MAY BE A FIT IF YOU:

Have chronic insomnia or wake feeling unrefreshed

Feel anxious, frustrated, or overly focused on sleep

Have tried sleep hygiene, medication, or basic CBT-I

Live with ADHD, autism, or night owl tendencies

Experience sleep problems alongside GI issues, POTS, chronic pain, or other health concerns

Struggle with nighttime hypervigilance, panic, or trauma-related sleep disruption

How We Work Together:

Treatment may include CBT-I, behavioral sleep medicine, clinical hypnosis, Somatic Experiencing®, or IFS-informed work, depending on what is contributing to your sleep difficulty. The goal is not to give you another rigid sleep checklist. It’s to help sleep require less effort again.

GI Psychology

WHEN GI SYMPTOMS START AFFECTING HOW YOU LIVE

Gastrointestinal disorders can be exhausting. Even when you’re receiving good medical care, symptoms can affect what you eat, where you go, how you plan your day, and how much you trust your own body.

GI Psychology focuses on the connection between the brain and digestive system. We work with concerns including IBS, IBD, and GI symptoms associated with other medical conditions, using psychological approaches that can complement your existing medical care.

GI PSYCHOLOGY MAY BE A FIT FOR:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Anxiety or distress related to digestive symptoms

Ongoing or recurring GI symptoms

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

GI symptoms alongside other medical conditions

Symptoms that interfere with everyday activities

How We Work Together:

Treatment may draw from CBT, gut-directed clinical hypnosis, Somatic Experiencing®, and IFS-informed work to help you better understand your responses, build practical skills, and reduce how much GI symptoms interfere with daily life.

Sleep Therapy for Teens

Behavioral Sleep Medicine for Teens & Families

TEENS CAN’T RUN A HIGH-PERFORMANCE SYSTEM ON A DRAINED BATTERY.

Your teen may be keeping up with classes, sports, activities, and friends, but you can see them running out of fuel. When their internal clock is out of sync, bedtime can turn into hours of frustration and mornings into a struggle just to get out the door.

We use specialized behavioral sleep medicine to address insomnia, delayed sleep schedules, bedtime anxiety, and the patterns that keep sleep problems going. The goal is to help your teen get the rest they need in a way that works with their biology and actual life.

THIS MAY BE A FIT IF YOUR TEEN:

Lies awake despite being exhausted

Struggles to wake up for school

Is a natural “night owl” with a delayed sleep schedule

Gets anxious, frustrated, or starts clock-watching at bedtime

Balances demanding academics, sports, activities, or social pressures

Has tried standard advice like “just turn off the phone” without much change

How We Work Together:

Parents join the initial intake so we can understand developmental history, medical context, and family routines. Ongoing sessions are generally one-on-one with your teen, with planned parent check-ins to share guidance, review progress, and support changes at home.

For Complex Sleep Concerns

Beyond Insomnia: Highly Specialized Sleep Protocols

SPECIALIZED BEHAVIORAL SLEEP MEDICINE FOR PROBLEMS THAT DON’T FIT THE STANDARD INSOMNIA PLAYBOOK.

Some sleep problems need more than standard sleep advice. You may be dealing with sleepwalking, recurring nightmares, overwhelming daytime sleepiness, hormone-related sleep disruption, or a body clock that simply doesn’t line up with the life you need to live.

Our work draws from advanced behavioral sleep medicine, CBT-based approaches, clinical hypnosis, and other specialized protocols selected for your specific sleep concern. When appropriate, we also coordinate with your medical sleep provider so your care works together rather than in pieces.

SPECIALIZED CARE MAY ADDRESS:

Sleepwalking, sleep talking & sleep-related eating

Recurring or distressing nightmares

Narcolepsy & idiopathic hypersomnia

Circadian rhythm disorders

Perimenopause & menopause-related sleep disruption

Complex sleep concerns often benefit from care that works alongside medical sleep treatment. If you have a medical sleep disorder, we ask that you first be evaluated by a board-certified sleep physician and remain under the care of your medical sleep provider when appropriate.

Beyond Talk Therapy

HOLISTIC INTEGRATION OF BOTTOM-UP THERAPIES

Close-up of hands reaching toward one another representing somatic and bottom-up approaches to trauma therapy

FOR WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT’S HAPPENING, BUT YOUR BODY HASN’T CAUGHT UP.

You may have insight into your patterns and still find your body bracing, shutting down, or staying on high alert. Our bottom-up approach works with the nervous system, subconscious mind, and physical responses that can remain long after a difficult experience has passed.

Depending on what you need, your care may draw from clinical hypnosis, Somatic Experiencing®, IFS, EMDR, and other evidence-based trauma therapies. The goal is not to fit you into one method, but to choose the approaches that make sense for your history, symptoms, and capacity.

THIS WORK MAY BE A FIT FOR:

Medical or physical trauma

Trauma responses that persist after the danger has passed

High-performer physiological burnout

Chronic fight-or-flight or bracing

Chronic pain or physical symptoms affected by stress

Long-standing patterns that haven’t shifted through talk therapy alone

How We Work Together:

We draw from multiple approaches rather than applying the same protocol to every person. Your work is shaped around what your nervous system actually needs.
